Andrew Sullivan’s New Site Launches

The new user-supported, ad-free version of Andrew Sullivan’s blog just launched this morning. Ahead of this launch they had over $500,000 worth of subscribers at $20 per year. And they will see how the response is now that the site is live. You can read up to 7 articles per month for free then it asks you to pay the fee for the yearly price if you want to read the full article.

(Unless you got to the article from a link to it, then you can read that linked entire article free)… It’s being called a “leaky pay-wall model.”

It’s a brave effort at a writer (a group of them) looking to avoid any traditional media deals, and even avoiding advertising, and looking to direct to their readers for support.

If this works you might see lots of other writers/artists/etc try a similar angle. Wish it well…
